Hi,

I came on your site while doing research on body image in support of my soon to be teenager daughter. The body image problem is not new to me, but dealing with it in the more detailed and intimate way that one does with one’s child is. That said, I have a few suggestions. Provide a place/means for discussion of body development, e.g when things happen, stories from other youth, maybe pictures if it can be done in the right way – non-sexual and within the boundaries of the law. Post links to useful and pre-screened information for youth. Finally, open this forum up to men and boys (young men). Boys are subject to many if not the same pressures as girls. Just look at the media imagery of boys and men. it’s not just penis size that’s part of the discussion anymore. I have a son. Fortunately he’s adopting the same philosophy that I have, and that’s what’s most important is how I feel about myself not what others think.

RESPONSE: Thank you Paul for your thoughtful suggestion. I plan to begin a companion site for men/boys shortly as I have discovered that body-image issues don’t belong to women alone. I would like to eventually add a forum to RealWomensBodies.com so it’s in the works. I want to make sure that I have the right set up to ensure that the forum is helpful, constructive and positive. It’s a great idea to find a way to allow younger women to share and discuss their body-image concerns. Thank you for your feedback. Wishing you all the best with your daughter and son!

Best of luck with the site. Love the concept.
All too often we let our expectations be shaped by the media. It is so refreshing to see people who actually want to open their eyes and accept things as they really are.
